American Red Cross Disaster Relief

With so many of our members affected by the devastating events this year, the chapter launched this campaign to not only raise awareness of the need for assistance, but also find a way we can do our part. Our hearts are with those whose lives have been upended by devastating wildfires across southern California, hurricanes in North Carolina, and all natural disasters.
.
The American Red Cross responds to a disaster every 8 minutes.  No one else does this: not the government, not other charities. The Red Cross works closely with partners to provide safe shelter, clean water, food, emotional support and other critical services to those in need and is focused on making sure everyone has a safe place to stay. Please donate today to help people recover from these disasters so no one faces this heartbreaking crisis alone.

It is no surprise that nurses have played a vital role during natural disasters.  American Red Cross nurses are on the scene providing medical care and general disaster relief and aid in the United States and around the world. These healthcare professionals, often working in challenging conditions, are tending to those affected by the disasters.  Their role, though less visible than firefighters and rescue personnel, is equally crucial in mitigating the human toll of this catastrophe.

We want to share a few stories highlighting this role...

If you are affected by a disaster...

Omicron Delta and Education Committee member, Dr. Liz Dietz, has been working with the Red Cross for many years. Here's what she says:

"There are immediate evacuation centers and then shelters - the EVAC centers are just that, go there get a meal and information - they might be turned into a shelter but at this time they are directing people to the shelters.- a shelter = full service with meals, cots, blankets, comfort kits [hygiene supplies, DHS -health care, DMH - behavioral health care - DSC-spiritual health - DDI= disability integration care - and of course sheltering and case work.
If anyone has any questions please call me - cell phone at bottom of my signature or email or text me - no time to communicate with me is to early or to late - I am however an evening person !"
